NASA’s Controversial Mission to the Moon: The Curse of the Peregrine

ANTARIKSA — The journey of the lunar lander carrying human remains, Peregrine, was marked by various problems. Dozens of hours into an agonizing flight, Peregrine had to be sent back into Earth’s atmosphere to burn and disintegrate.

Debris and human remains, including those of four former United States Presidents (if any remain), are now rotting in the world’s most remote region, the South Pacific. Therefore, it is not surprising that the media nicknamed him ‘The Cursed Peregrine.’

Astrobotic’s Peregrine was originally the great hope of the United States (US) to create a new history for its nation. He was contracted by NASA for the first private scientific mission to the moon. Unfortunately, Peregrine apparently also signed subcontracts with various customers, including two space burial companies: Celestis and Elysium Space.

The two companies packaged a number of human remains in the form of memorial capsules (monuments) that will be stored on the moon, and some will be sent to distant interstellar space. Four remains representing the DNA of former US presidents; US George Washington, Dwight Eisenhower, John F Kennedy and Ronald Reagan were in the pack.

Start of the Peregrine Controversy

After its 20 customer loads have been packed, Peregrine is ready to launch on January 8 2024. The rocket carrying it is ULA’s newest and greatest Vulcan Centaur, which also wants to make a first history.

However, a week before the launch ceremony was held, problems came from the Navajo Nation, the largest tribe in the US. They made a strong protest asking the US and NASA to cancel the mission. The human remains accompanied by it are considered to desecrate sacred Navajo objects.

The pros and cons surfaced, but NASA decided that Peregrine would continue the mission without leaving anything behind. “Simply put, we will never allow religious beliefs to dictate humanity’s efforts in space, there is and should not be a religious test,” said Celestis CEO and co-founder Charles Chafer.

Peregrine glided gracefully with the Vulcan Centaur on Monday, January 8 2024. The gasps of admiration from hundreds of thousands of people who witnessed it were peppered with heroic sentences; America has Created a New History of Space!

The Vulcan Centaur and Peregrine parted ways peacefully a few minutes after flying. Peregrine continues its journey to the moon with plans to land on February 23, 2024.

The Damned

Several hours later, bad news began to come from Peregrine. The aircraft did not receive electrical power as planned. Mission control immediately investigated and discovered the propellant tank or fuel tank was leaking.
