The test launch software was successful without any significant problems.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, WASHINGTON — The American Space Agency’s (NASA) lunar mission for the Artemis program is in final testing. The team conducted a second launch countdown test Monday (24/1/2022), with no major issues reported, according to the agency’s blog post.
“The test demonstrated ground-launch software and a ground-launch sequencer, which checks the safety and status of rockets placed on the runway,” it said. NASA in the post.
NASA added that another function of the test was to get the rocket’s Space Launch System (SLS) and the Orion spacecraft to work well with the sequencer.
The simulated launch countdown tests the responsiveness of these two systems, NASA wrote on the blog. Reported from Space, Thursday (27/1/2022), on launch day, the ground launch sequencer hands over the rocket and spacecraft, and the automatic launch sequencer takes over control of the rocket from the ground controller about 30 seconds before launch.
Artemis 1 aims to send an unmanned spacecraft around the moon using the never-before-flying SLS and ever-flying rockets and Orion.
By providing this mission and future program work as planned, NASA plans a manned Artemis 2 mission to orbit the moon in 2024. Next, NASA plans an astronaut landing for the Artemis 3 mission in 2025, followed by another manned mission later in the 2020s. .
There’s still a lot of work to come before Artemis 1 enters a “wet dress rehearsal” in February, which will load the SLS with propellant and have the ground team run all pre-launch operations to ensure the system is ready for use.
All tests were conducted inside NASA’s Kennedy Space Center Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) in Florida. This is the same structure on which the Apollo Saturn V rocket was tested and built in the 1960s and 1970s.
