To think that an invisible asteroid could be heading towards Earth is truly alarming to scientists. Despite the active detection and monitoring of more than 30,000 near-Earth asteroids, experts from NASA and other agencies acknowledge that there may still be large asteroids or comets in the solar system that remain undetected.
To that end, agencies are using advanced technologies, such as the control system used in the DART test completed by NASA last year. These technologies provide new opportunities to develop methods to reduce the risk of asteroid impacts and reduce the likelihood of them falling onto the surface of our planet.
NASA is not sure what happened to the lost asteroid, but representatives from the space agency, speaking to The Standard, said: “There are currently no known threats of an asteroid impact with Earth in the next century.
