NASA Warns of Large Asteroids Approaching Earth, How Dangerous?

JawaPos.com – It’s no longer a secret that asteroids are space objects that threaten Earth. Asteroids that fall to Earth often cause destruction and damage.

However, along with increasingly sophisticated technological developments, the threat of asteroids approaching Earth can be monitored. Thus, the potential for falls can also be predicted by then preparing other further mitigations so as not to cause casualties.

Most recently, NASA is reported to be on alert because a giant asteroid 89 feet wide or measuring 27 meters more will pass by Earth. NASA has warned that this space rock, named Asteroid 2023 CJ1, will approach Earth.

But don’t worry (for now) the closest means 4.8 million kilometers. According to reports on the official website, this distance is relatively small in terms of astronomical distances.

NASA reports that the asteroid is hurtling toward Earth at a speed of 25,755 km/hour. Compared to what we can see today, this speed is twice that of a hypersonic ballistic missile.

For now, the United States (US) space agency stated that there is no reason to be worried about the asteroid. But still, they watched the asteroid for the next few hours as it passed Earth.

NASA itself is famous for studying asteroids and other celestial bodies. The company has a monitoring system with the latest technology. For example, NASA uses an algorithm called Sentry-II.

It serves to calculate the impact risk of Near-Earth objects. With this system, the agency can track the asteroid’s orbital path. Through infrared data, they can even predict the orbits of these objects into the future.

To date, nearly 28,000 near-Earth asteroids have been discovered. So far, none of them pose a real threat to Earth. But still, this space phenomenon must be watched out for by the inhabitants of the Earth.
