KOMPAS.com – NASA warn about giant asteroid which will fly close to Earth tomorrow (28/4/2022).
The asteroid named 418135 (2008 AG33) has a diameter of 350-780 meters or almost six times the height of the Monas Monument. It was traveling at 30 times the speed of sound.
At its closest distance, 2008 AG33 will be 3.2 million kilometers from Earth or about eight times the average distance between Earth and the Moon.
Although 3.2 million kilometers sounds very far away, it is very close by space standards.
NASA categorizes all space objects within 193 million kilometers of Earth as “near-Earth objects”.

Meanwhile, objects such as 2008 AG33 that are within 7.5 million kilometers of Earth are considered “potentially hazardous”.
As an object deemed “potentially hazardous”, 2008 AG33 will be monitored closely by astronomers.
The reason is, if this asteroid misses the predicted trajectory, 2008 AG33 could collide with Earth.
