On Tuesday night the first test of a new defense of the earth takes place. Then NASA’s Dart spacecraft will be headed towards an asteroid at a speed of 24,000 kilometers per hour.
The goal of the collision is to hit the asteroid hard enough to change the orbit of the celestial body. According to NASA, the asteroid poses no threat, but the mission’s purpose is to be able to defend the Earth if an asteroid ends up on the wrong collision course in the future.
