Astronauts, Josh Cassada and Frank Rubio, installed the “EROSA” solar panel outside the station after working for about 7 hours in space, according to a statement from “NASA”.
During their mission, Casada and Rubio disconnected a cable that allowed the Energy Conduit to be restored to 75 percent of its operational capacity.
The International Space Station received on November 27 the new solar modules, “EROSA”, which were loaded aboard the “Dragon” spacecraft.
NASA is currently upgrading the solar power system aboard the International Space Station, as the efficiency of the original solar panels has declined over the years.
The cost of modernizing the solar power system is estimated at $103 million, and the new system will be capable of generating 215 kilowatts of electricity.
