NASA Unveils Stunning New IMAGE of Milky Way ‘Center’

The United States Space Agency (NASA) released this Friday (28) a stunning new image of the violent and highly energized “center” of our galaxy.

The image is a composite of 370 observations made over the past two decades by the telescópio orbital Chandra X-Ray, showing billions of stars and countless black holes in the “center,” or heart, of the Milky Way. A radio telescope in South Africa also contributed to the creation of the image, by contrast.

Unravel the superheated gas lines and magnetic fields that make up the energy tapestry of our galaxy, the Milky Way. A new image from the Chandra X-Ray telescope brings to life the gigantic mosaic of data that interweaves this cosmic masterpiece.

The person responsible for the photo, astronomer Daniel Wang of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, told the Associated Press news agency today (28) that he spent a year working on the image, while remaining isolated at home due to the pandemic.

“What we see in the photo is a violent and energetic ecosystem in the center of our galaxy“said Wang, aforementioned by AP. “There are many supernova remnants, black holes, and neutron stars there. Each dot or mark on the X-ray represents an energy source, most of them in the center,” he added.

This confused and highly energetic galactic center is about 26,000 light years away from Earth.

Wang’s work will be published in the June issue of the Royal Astronomical Society’s scientific journal.

Threads of superheated gas and magnetic fields are weaving a tapestry of energy in this new panorama of the center of our galaxy, the Milky Way. Approximately 1,000 light-years across and 2,000 light-years long, this image teaches us more about our climate in galactic space that is driven by volatile phenomena such as supernova explosions and matter eruptions from regions near Sagittarius A* , the supermassive black hole of our galaxy.
