JAKARTADAILY.ID – The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the United States government agency responsible for scientific and technological programs in the fields of aeronautics and space, released the latest photo of the ‘ruins’ of the former star explosion or Supernova Cassiopeia A (Cas A).
In a recent written statement, NASA said that for the first time astronomers combined data from NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory and the James Webb Space Telescope. The merger was carried out to study the famous supernova remnant Cassiopeia A (Cas A).

“As explained in our latest press release, this research has helped explain the unusual structure of the debris from a destroyed star called the ‘Green Monster’. It was first discovered in Webb data in April 2023. This research also reveals new details about the explosion that occurred. created Cas A about 340 years ago, from Earth’s perspective,” wrote NASA.
NASA explains this with several photos of Supernova Cassiopeia A. The new composite image contains X-rays from Chandra (in blue), infrared data from Webb (in red, green, blue), as well as optical data from Hubble (red and white).
The outer part of the image also includes infrared data from NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope (red, green, and blue). The outline of the Green Monster can be seen in the image carousel.

Chandra data revealed hot gas, mostly from the supernova debris of destroyed stars, including elements such as silicon and iron. In the outer reaches of Cas A, the expanding blast wave hits the surrounding gas ejected by the star before the explosion.
X-rays are produced by energetic electrons rotating around magnetic field lines in a blast wave. These electrons flash as a thin arc on the outside of Cas A, and on the inside.
Webb highlighted infrared emissions from dust that heats up as it is embedded in the hot gas that Chandra sees, and from much cooler supernova debris. Meanwhile Hubble data shows stars in the field.

Separate graphs show color Chandra images, with red showing iron and magnesium at low X-ray energies, green showing silicon at medium X-ray energies, and blue showing the highest X-ray energies, from electrons rotating around magnetic field lines.
As for the outline of the Green Monster, plus the location of the blast wave, and the debris rich in silicon and iron.
