TRIBUNMANADO.CO.ID, Manado – Countless number of spaceships were sent NASA to the Solar System.
And, at the end of this November NASA back will send a spaceship there.
This delivery is a special mission.
In this mission, NASA about to crash a spacecraft into a small asteroid to slightly accelerate the asteroid’s orbit.
Known as the Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) mission.
This is the first breakthrough NASA in the field of active planetary defense.
This field seeks to detect large asteroids that could potentially collide with Earth, evaluate the risks these rocks pose and, if necessary, work to prevent catastrophe.
“If any asteroid becomes threat to Earth, you’ll want to do this technique years before, decades before,” he said Nancy Chabot.
Nancy is a planetary scientist and the head of DART coordination at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Maryland, at a press conference prior to the mission’s launch, as reported by Space.com.
“You’re only going to give this asteroid a small push, which will add a big change to its position in the future, and then the asteroid and Earth won’t be on a collision course.”
