NASA | The Voyager 2 probe is in the middle of a “blackout” and the space agency is worried

Voyager 2 He turned off part of his instruments after detecting an error and the POT is working remotely so that resume the operation of this probe.

A few days ago, the iconic device turned off its non-essential instruments and parts automatically after two high power systems start working actively at the same time, spending extra energy. This “fail-safe mode” prevents high consumption by deactivating certain sections of the probe.

The space agency is already working on its recovery, but the circumstances are difficult: Since it is more than 18 million kilometers from Earth, all the commands carried out take 17 hours to reach the ship. For NASA, making a sequence on it and having a response of its effect takes a day and a half.

At the moment it has been possible to turn off one of the high consumption systems, reactivating part of the Voyager 2.

The spacecraft is powered by nuclear energy through its three radioisotope thermoelectric generators (RTG), which should provide power to the spacecraft until 2025. Unfortunately, if the ship is not reactivated, it will end up frozen in interstellar space before the end of its life expectancy.
