This is an important development because unlike other galactic alignments, the two galaxies in the VV-689 system have already collided.

The Hubble Space Telescope has recorded stunning images of two galaxies embedded in VV-689 that look like wings. The two galaxies are currently colliding and are dubbed the Angel Wings. The interactions between these two galaxies are almost identical, so they look like wings.
This is an important development because unlike other galaxy alignments, which only “appear” to overlap from the perspective of Earth, the two galaxies in the VV-689 system actually collide.
Image recorded from Hubble observations examining the “Jewel of the Zoo” – a galaxy of interest under the Citizen Science Project at the Galaxy Zoo. A crowdsourcing astronomy project needs the help of volunteers to explore the galaxy.
NASA launched the Hubble Space Telescope in 1990 and was named in honor of Edwin Hubble, a prominent American astronomer of the early 20th century. The telescope is a space observatory and has made important observations of interstellar objects, including the moon around Pluto and comets colliding with Jupiter. The telescope has now been in operation for more than thirty years.
