NASA Takes Photos of the Smiling Sun | Tech

Last week, the US space agency NASA took a photo of the sun looking like a smiley face. The eyes and smile were caused by three solar flares.

NASA posted the images on Twitter. In the comments, the sun was compared to a carved Halloween pumpkin, a lion and the sun in the children’s TV series Teletubbies.

The images were taken with the Solar Dynamics Observatory. This is a satellite that monitors the activity of the sun. For example, the satellite can warn if a solar flare shoots towards Earth.

The flashes that made the sun smile shot towards the Earth. As a result, there was also increased aurora activity in the northern and southern hemispheres of the earth this past weekend.
