NASA Successfully Launches PACE Satellite to Monitor Earth’s Health

Space transportation company SpaceX on Thursday successfully launched to send NASA’s satellite, PACE, worth nearly one billion dollars (around Rp. 15.6 trillion) into orbit to collect data on the Earth’s health, from its oceans to its climate.

Apart from that, NASA or the United States aviation and space agency also said that the satellite would be able to provide important data to help fight climate change.

The satellite, named PACE, was launched with SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket, after its launch had been threatened with cancellation on various previous occasions.

After reaching the correct orbit, PACE will begin its observations aboard the International Space Station.

The satellite will collect data on aerosols and clouds, scanning Earth every two days to analyze their chemical composition, movement and interactions.

NASA’s PACE mission aims to explore the environment on Earth by studying ocean health, atmospheric conditions and ecosystems.

The project will monitor plankton, aerosols, clouds and ocean conditions to better understand their interactions and influence on the planet’s climate and overall health.

The scientists say that the PACE data will provide important insights into the impact of aerosols on cloud formation and distinguish between different types of clouds.

Understanding these factors is critical to interpreting climate change and changes in air quality, according to NASA.

Additionally, data from the PACE polarimeter will improve climate models by providing more accurate atmospheric information, replacing current forecast models with direct measurements.

The new polarimetry data will also provide insight real time (real time) or directly regarding air pollution.
