NASA scientists propose a theory as to why we haven’t encountered other intelligent life forms. crush

NASA The scientists explained in A new leaf Why they think we’ve never encountered intelligent extraterrestrial life is staggering.

They argue that all intelligent life may have self-destructed before reaching a complex point in evolution that would support such an encounter. They believe the same fate awaits humans unless we act.

The “Great Filter” theory – as in the “liquidation” of various life forms – holds that other civilizations, perhaps many, may have existed in the universe for life. But the document indicated that they all self-destructed before making contact with Earth.Transcending the Grand Candidate: Extraterrestrial Life and Humanity’s Future in the Universe. “

They write that scientists fear all intelligent life, such as humans, have deep-seated imbalances that could “rapidly decay into the Great Filter.”

But there is still some hope for humans: That we can learn and act to avoid our fate, notes the paper by a team of researchers at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California.

“The key to the successful passage of humanity through such a universal filter is… identification [destructive] In an article posted online Oct. 23, astrophysicist Jonathan Jiang and colleagues said:

The paper has not yet been peer reviewed.

The authors argue that what appears to be destroying humans could threaten intelligent life on other planets. The authors note that potential culprits — humans or other intelligent life — include nuclear war, pandemics, climate change, and runaway artificial intelligence.

The trick, the biggest challenge of all, the researchers said, is to work together to survive.

“History shows that interspecies competition and, more importantly, cooperation have taken us to the pinnacle of innovation. Yet we perpetuate ideas that seem antithetical to long-term sustainable development: racism, genocide, inequality and vandalism,” the authors warn.
