While we have not yet found microbes on Mars, we have managed to find many different rocks that remind us of the creatures of our planet. And now we can add a duck-shaped rock next to the fish, cat, and various body parts that resemble the rocks that NASA’s Curiosity rover detected in the past.
The rover first photographed the rock with its pole-mounted camera in late October. And now we have a colorful version of rock, thanks to the sharp eyes of the Andrea Luck image processor. Luck shared the fun creation on Twitter.
Thanks to the excellent angle with which the rover photographed the rock, it is possible to see a “duck” swimming in the water, turning its head and looking at its back.
Curiosity is currently busy exploring the incredibly scenic area of Gale Crater, full of wild and wonderful formations. Scientists are interested in the salty minerals found there and are looking into what they can find out about the planet’s water history. The rover looks for signs of organic molecules as it investigates whether Mars was a habitable time for microbial life.
