NASA rover finds trash on Mars, where does it come from? page all

KOMPAS.com – Trash is sometimes full of mystery. Serious. They are everywhere.

At the deepest depths of the ocean, some 35,700 feet below the surface, trash can be found. And, the latest findings say, there are also trash on Mars.

Reported from Mashablewhile searching for clues to Mars’ past microbial life, the Perseverance rover NASA recently saw landing debris trapped in jagged rocks.

Looks like real trash.

The debris is a thermal material that the space agency uses to protect the Perseverance spacecraft from extreme temperatures as it travels to Mars and falls through the Martian atmosphere.

“My team has seen something unexpected: This is part of the thermal blanket, the rocket-powered jet pack that dropped me on landing day in 2021,” NASA tweeted from the Perseverance rover on Wednesday (15/6/2022).

A looming question is how the foil-like debris found its way into this region in Mars’ Jezero Crater.

In fact, it is about two kilometers (1.2 miles) from where the landing gear crashed in the Martian desert.

“Did this piece land here after that, or was it blown here?” they asked.

The Perseverance rover previously landed on Mars in February 2021.

On its way down, the spacecraft carrying the rover dumped various instruments and objects, including a heat shield, supersonic parachute, and a rocket-powered sky crane that lowered the rover to the ground.

So it shouldn’t be too surprising if the explorer stumbles across a lot of debris this time around.

However, it’s not trash that should be the focus.

Today, space explorers enter the climax of their mission to explore the drying river delta of Jezero Crater.

About 3 billion years ago, NASA planetary scientists thought this area was filled with water.

“This delta is one of the best locations on Mars for explorers to look for signs of past microscopic life,” NASA said.
