NASA presented a never-before-seen composite image of the so-called Christmas Tree Cluster, which, contrary to its name, does not consist of Christmas trees, but of a multitude of stars. The specialists used different wavelengths and telescopes to take the photo, because originally the shape of the Christmas tree could not be made out so spectacularly.
The stars in the cluster are 0.1-7 solar masses, and their distance from Earth is about 2500 light years.
The green color in the picture represents the different gases, these data were provided by the WIYN Observatory. The whitish stars visible in the foreground and background of the image were recorded in the infrared range by 2MASS, but what really makes the “Christmas tree” shine is the data provided by the Chandra space telescope, which have already been documented in the X-ray range and flicker blue.
As for that Space.com also draws attention to the fact that the stars shown in the image resembling a pine tree are still very young, so their own system may still be developing – however, at this age, stars are also prone to violent X-ray bursts that may be strong enough to partially or completely vaporize nearby celestial bodies; so the set can still be formed in plenty.
