A mysterious flash that lit up the skies over the Ukrainian capital Kiev has sparked much speculation.
The American space agency has responded to information about the allegedly probable fall of its satellite in the territory of the Kiev region. There on Wednesday, April 19, they said that their satellite is still in orbit, writes the BBC.
“The satellite was still in orbit at the time the flare was observed and will re-enter Earth’s atmosphere at night,” NASA’s Office of Communications said.
NASA and the US Department of Defense continue to monitor RHESSI.
The RHESSI spacecraft, which was used to observe solar flares, was launched into low Earth orbit in 2002 and decommissioned in 2018, according to NASA.
NASA previously announced that the decommissioned 660-pound (300 kg) satellite will re-enter the atmosphere on Wednesday.
The Kyiv city military administration said that the NASA space satellite became the source of the glow over Kiev.
Residents of Kyiv on Wednesday, April 19, reported a flash in the sky.
