NASA research team successfully identifies patterns of temperature changes on Jupiter

Hitekno.com – Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL) researchers NASA led by Glenn Orton have identified as temperature on the largest planet in the Solar System, Jupitermodified from time to time.

Reported by Sputnik Newsthese results were obtained after analyzing the data provided by the NASA mission to Jupiter and obtained through observations telescope terrestrial.

During their work that began in 1978, the researchers discovered that the temperature in Jupiter’s troposphere, stratum atmosphere the lowest point at which clouds form, the experience waxes and wanes “following specific periods unrelated to the seasons or other cycles known to scientists,” according to a press release shared on the JPL website.

The research team also noticed a curious relationship between these temperature changes, because while it gets hotter at certain latitudes in Jupiter’s northern hemisphere, it also gets colder at the same latitudes in the planet’s southern hemisphere.

Orton says that ‘we have found a relationship between how temperature varies at very distant latitudes. This is similar to the phenomenon we see on Earth, where weather and climate patterns in one region can have a marked influence on the weather in a’ another, with seemingly ‘teleconnected’ patterns of variability across vast distances through the atmosphere.”

The researchers now plan to further explore the nature of these temperature changes, with study co-author Leigh Fletcher of the University of Leicester saying: ‘To understand what drives these patterns and why they occur on these particular timescales, we need to explore both above and under cloud cover.”

In doing so, the researchers set out to find out more about the factors influencing temperature changes on Jupiter, particularly how the weather and climate patterns in one region can have a marked influence on the weather elsewhere.
