New merged galaxy
Prepared by: Mohamed Ezzedine
The US space agency NASA published new images taken by the Hubble Space Telescope, showing two galaxies merging together to form a single galaxy called “ESO 185-IG013,” described as a blue galaxy containing a mixture of young stars and older ones.
NASA scientists said: “Viewing the new merged galaxy, with ultraviolet and infrared wavelengths, showed us different details of two galaxies.”
They added: “There are a larger number of star clusters that are only 3.5 million years old, which is considered relatively young compared to the age of the universe, and the large number of young star clusters indicates that this galaxy was part of a recent collision and merger of two galaxies, in addition to galactic tides.” “It is a diffuse glow surrounding its center.”
He pointed out that the turbulent structure of the galaxy, which was likely caused by the violent interactions of gas and dust during the collision, is another sign of this merger.
