NASA releases details of Artemis mission | Nightlife – CAMEROON MAGAZINE – CAMEROON INFO

The U.S. Space Agency has released more details on the Artemis mission that will travel to the Moon in 2024.

The next astronauts to walk on the moon will walk more than 16 times more than their predecessors of the 1960s.

NASA revealed today that Artemis astronauts will make moon walks up to 16 kilometers in one excursion. In comparison, Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong in 1969 had to settle for a kilometer walk.

The reason for these very long walks by astronauts is the search for ice and water at the South Pole of the Moon. The space agency believes that these walks will also allow scientists to find new things on the Moon.

Walking 16 km on Earth is exhausting. NASA believes that the new spacesuits developed for the Artemis mission will facilitate these long outings. Such a day of walking could take up to 10 hours, since on the Moon, walking is slower due to weightlessness.

Already, future Artemis astronauts are training in Houston. The space agency has already indicated that unlike the Apollo missions, women will this time be sent to the Moon. Ultimately, the authorities want the lunar journeys to last up to two weeks.

NASA has not sent astronauts to the Moon since the Apollo 17 mission in 1972.
