JAKARTA – Moon and Earth is about 400 times closer than Earth to the Sun. While the diameter of the Moon is 400 times smaller than the diameter of the Sun.
This means that the Moon and the Sun have the same angular diameter in the sky.
In the book Tafsir Ilmi ‘The Benefits of Heavenly Objects in the Perspective of the Qur’an and Science’ compiled by Lajnah Pentashihan of the Al-Qur’an Mushaf, the Research and Development and Training Agency of the Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia, with the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) describes the Moon as a tidal driver.
The size of the same angular diameter can also be a sign that the role of the Moon and the Sun is equally important in human life.
The moon and sun regulate the rhythm of the tides and ocean currents, which so far have not been widely used as a source of energy.
Distributing seawater heat means stabilizing the weather. Apart from being a satellite of the Earth, the Moon is also a celestial body whose influence on its parent planet is very large.
Among these influences is the position that will cause the tides. In this regard, Allah says in the Qur’an:
the moon removed the old lizard
“And We appointed the month of manzilah-manzilah, so that (after he reached the last manzilah) he returns like a bunch of old” (QS Yasin: 39).
This verse, talks about determining the position of the Moon. Due to its movement around the Earth, the Moon has a position that is always changing.
This position is related not only to its appearance when viewed from Earth, but also its overall location to the parent planet.
On the other hand, the position of the Moon which is always changing also has its own consequences for the Earth. As is known, the Moon has an attraction or gravity like the other planets.
With its location relatively close to Earth, this attraction must have a strong effect on its parent planet, causing Earth’s elements to be attracted and tilted toward the Moon.
The most turbulent part of the earth is the ocean. Therefore, at any time the sea level will change according to the position of the Moon.
When the Moon is in its position, the sea water that is in a straight line with it will be attracted and its surface will rise, as will the sea which is 180 degrees.
The sea that is 90 degrees to the Moon will recede because its surface is attracted to a location in the direction of the Moon.
Tides always occur at any time, although in different places. The people who suffer the most are those who carry out their activities at sea, such as fishermen, sailors and the like.
