NASA James Webb Telescope To Launch December 24

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

United States Aeronautics and Space Administration NASA decided to launch the James Webb telescope on December 24, 2021.

This is the launch date that has been announced several times, after a series of delays. The latest decision was announced via Twitter.

The James Webb giant telescope launch project began in 1989. At that time, the telescope was projected to launch in the early 2000s.

However, the development process faced a number of problems so that the project was delayed, not according to the original plan.

The James Webb telescope assembled in the United States has been transported to its launch site in French Guiana, and is scheduled for launch December 18.

However, due to a number of issues, the launch was postponed. Recently, NASA announced the launch of the giant telescope to be December 24.

The James Webb telescope will be the next giant telescope after Hubble. With a point closer to the Sun, the Webb telescope is expected to unlock the universe further.

While Hubble focused on the light emitted by stars, nebulae, galaxies and more, the James Webb telescope specialized in infrared astronomy to collect and analyze lower energy electromagnetic radiation.

This will not only enable the study of cooler objects and materials, such as the atmospheres of distant planets and the clouds of gas and dust that give birth to new star systems, but will also open a window on the infrared universe.

Among its many mission objectives, the James Webb Space Telescope will also explore how early galaxies formed and evolved.

In addition, the telescope will probe the atmospheres of distant exoplanets for chemical signatures of life, observe the birth of new stars, and gaze at the darkness of galaxies such as supermassive black holes.

James Webb’s name is taken from NASA veteran, James E. Webb, who has been actively researching in the space agency since the 1960s.
