NASA has included 2023CL3 in its list of space rocks that have come close to the earth.
It is reported that the size of 2023CL3 is more than twice the size of the New York landmark Statue of Liberty. If such a large asteroid collides with the earth, it may cause serious damage, so NASA regards it as a “potential threat.”
NASA stated that 2023CL3 will fly by less than 7.24 million kilometers from the earth on May 24. Although this number sounds far away, it is not a safe enough distance for the entire space.
Some experts worry that Earth is not ready to protect itself from a potentially deadly asteroid. In addition, Musk once tweeted: “Eventually a big rock will hit the earth, because we currently have no defenses.”
