Origin space agency United States of America, NASAjust found a planet like earth. The planet is the second planet that is expected to be able to become a home for humans.
Quoting Forbes, the planet is called planet TOI 700 e. The factor that makes it livable is its resembling size earth and the orbital time of its star which is estimated to be 28 days.
This also makes the planet’s temperature similar to Earth’s and capable of having water. According to scientists, water is the source of life, so it is the main requirement for a planet to be habitable for humans.
The planet is 95 percent the size of Earth and is thought to have a rocky surface.
“This is one of very few systems with many small planets in the habitable zone that we know of,” said Postdoctoral Fellow at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Southern California, Emily Gilbert, as quoted by Forbes on Monday (16/01/2023). He presented the findings at the 241st meeting of the American Astronomical Society in Seattle.
Actually, in the same orbital system, there are other planets that have been discovered, namely TOI 700 b and TOI 700 c. However, both orbit too close to the central star to have very hot temperatures.
Planet TOI 700 b is 10% smaller than Earth and orbits for 10 days. Meanwhile, planet TOI 700 c has a size 2.5 times that of Earth and orbits for 16 days.
Meanwhile, the center of the orbit of the TOI 700 planets is a red dwarf star in the constellation Dorado. It is estimated, the star has a lower temperature than the sun. The system is also 100 light years from the solar system.
Before discovering TOI 700 e, scientists also discovered the planet ‘super Earth’ in 2022. With a distance of 98 light years, the planet is claimed to be more habitable than the earth.
The planets were discovered by NASA with the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) satellite. The system serves to survey the solar system and monitor the brightness of stars.
In fact, the TESS mission was completed in 2020. However, the technology is progressing and can now be used to search for a new planet, Young People!
