NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory has officially confirmed that there are more than 5,000 known planets beyond our Solar System.

NASA stated that a milestone was reached earlier this week with the latest discoveries. After the discoveries were reviewed by referees, featured in scientific papers, and verified through multiple detection systems, it was confirmed that there were more than 5,000 planets found so far.
Among the planets found, worldThere are also those that have small, rocky plains like that of Earth, gas giants even larger than Jupiter, and those that orbit extremely close to a star. There are also larger “super-Earths” and smaller “mini-Neptunes” than our own planet.
“FINDING A PLANET WITH LIFE IS ESSENTIAL”
“This is not just a number,” said Jessie Christiansen, a NASA Expolanet Science Institute Research Scientist. Each one is a new world, a brand new planet. I’m excited for each one because we don’t know anything about them,” she said.
In total, NASA estimates that there are hundreds of billions of such planets in our galaxy and that there will be more discoveries in the future.
Alexander Wolszczan, the lead author of the study, who first discovered the outer planets in 1992, said of the discovery of the planets, “I think it’s inevitable that we’ll find some kind of life somewhere, probably of the primitive kind.”
