Menurut National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), temperature Earth’s surface in 2021 has increased by 0.85 °C compared to the annual average temperature during the period 1951-1980.
In the past decade, the earth’s surface temperature has also increased to 1.02 °C in 2016 and 2020.
Monitoring and recording of this temperature is carried out year-round through weather stations, ships, and sensors installed in marine buoys around the world.
The temperature measurements were also validated with data from the Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS), a technology on NASA’s Aqua satellite that is capable of monitoring the emission of infrared energy from the Earth’s surface and atmosphere.
NASA states that the trend of increasing Earth’s surface temperature is caused by human activities that increase CO2 (carbon dioxide) pollution and greenhouse gases others to the atmosphere.
The impact of global warming has been noted by many researchers, ranging from decreasing Arctic Sea ice levels, rising sea levels, increasing forest fire intensity, and changing animal migration patterns.
According to a report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), global warming can also increase the risk of drought, changes in rain patterns, to an increase in the intensity of extreme weather.
