NASA Discovers Potentially Habitable ‘Super-Earth’

The ‘super-Earth’ is approximately 1.5 times the size of our planet and has an orbital period of just under 24 days. Its proximity to its host star means that it is likely to be tidally locked, with one side constantly facing the star while the other remains in perpetual darkness. This could result in extreme temperature differences between the two hemispheres, making it challenging for life as we know it to thrive.

Despite these challenges, scientists remain hopeful about the potential habitability of TOI-1231 b. Its red dwarf star emits less heat and light than our Sun, which could mitigate some of the extreme conditions on the planet’s surface. Additionally, the exoplanet’s atmosphere could play a crucial role in regulating temperatures and supporting life, if present.

The discovery of TOI-1231 b adds to the growing list of potentially habitable exoplanets that scientists have identified in recent years.
