In a recent announcement, NASA announced that it had discovered 2,200 new planets using the TESS satellite.
NASA still continuing their efforts to explore new planets. They also use many high-tech satellites in an effort to uncover what secrets are stored in other galaxies.
Recently, it was reported that NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) had reached their end point. And after doing a search, they are said to have found a new planet.
Reporting from Engadget (29/3) unmitigated, they found a total of 2,200 new potential planets using this technology since 2018. This means that they found thousands of planets that could be habitable.
NASA says TESS originally expected to find 1,600 planets in its first two years. However, in the end the results were not satisfactory, even though at this point they were reaping considerable success.
Some discoveries are decidedly unusual. The rocky planet TOI-700 d, which is said to be similar to Earth, is reportedly only 100 light years away. They also found LHS 3844 b which they call “super hot Earth” with a very close 11-hour orbit.
There is also TOI 1690 b which is a rare victim of a red giant star that engulfs a planet in its orbit. Meanwhile, TOI 849 b is estimated to be a gas giant that has either lost its atmosphere or has never had an atmosphere.
However, NASA will not scrutinize the 2,200 planets carefully. So far only 120 planets have been confirmed, and NASA is betting on future spacecraft such as the James Webb Space Telescope to study potential planets in more detail.
