Technologue.id, Jakarta – The United States space agency, NASA continues to conduct research on space objects. NASA even poured tens of millions of dollars for the development of robots or spacecraft that will study asteroids.
NASA should have launched two research robots (probes) to study unexplored asteroids. However, after several years of development and nearly $50 million in spending, NASA announced that the probe will remain locked inside Lockheed Martin’s Colorado factory.

NASA’s reason for delaying the launch of the spacecraft was due to a problem with software testing on the Psyche spacecraft. This prompted NASA managers to delay the launch by more than a year.
NASA plans to launch a mission called Janus last year on the same rocket as the Psyche spacecraft. The spacecraft will head for the metal-rich asteroid 225 kilometers wide for more than two years of close observations.
An independent review board set up to analyze the reasons for the delay in the Psyche launch identified problems with the spacecraft’s software. In addition, there were constraints on testing the software prior to Psyche’s launch.

Upon further investigation, it was found that NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, which manages the Psyche mission, was burdened by staffing and manpower issues exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
For now, the Psyche spacecraft will be focused on liftoff in October aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket, but the Janus spacecraft will not be on board.
