Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – Several space missions are being prepared by the United States Aeronautics and Space Agency NASA. One of them that will make many people excited to see it is a giant snake robot made by NASA that will slither on Saturn in search of signs of life.

Reported from BGRTuesday (9/5/2023), the snake is exobiology extant life surveyor (EELS). This robot was created to be able to traverse various types of terrain, while adapting to the terrain. Saturn is believed to contain liquid oceans beneath its icy crust, and EELS can help astronomers substantiate those reports.

This huge robotic snake was designed by NASA’s JPL robotics lab, and it is a robot self-propelled which consists of several but identical segments. This segment contains the propulsion and actuation mechanisms, which will power the various electronics and allow them to communicate seamlessly.

This mobility system is designed to help the robot explore the internal and enclosed terrain that is believed to form the surface of Enceladus. Its design will allow it not only to traverse the top or ice crust, but also to dig deeper beneath the surface in search of hidden oceans believed to lie beneath the ice crust.

It’s also possible that EELS could be used on other planets, such as Mars, to help explore beneath the surface and even across the surface. This could make the search for life on Mars much easier, especially considering that scientists believe evidence of water on Mars could be hidden beneath its sand dunes.
