NASA Cancels Artemis II and Artemis III Moon Missions Due to Spacecraft Problems

Bloomberg Technoz, Jakarta – The United States (US) government’s National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced that it was canceling NASA’s Artemis II and Artemis III missions to the moon.

The decision to postpone for one year was due to the revelation of several series of problems with the spacecraft during testing.

Reporting from NewScientist, the mission that will be carried out by Artemis II is a mission to circle the moon by four astronauts which was previously planned for the end of 2024 to September 2025. Meanwhile, the Artemis III mission is to land astronauts on the Moon for the first time since 1972 which was originally planned in 2025 to 2026.

At a press conference on January 9 2023, NASA said that this decision was made to ensure the safety of the astronauts and to provide sufficient time to test all components of the spacecraft.

“I want to emphasize that safety is your number one priority, and as we prepare to send our team on this mission, we are committed to launching it as safely as possible,” said NASA Associate Administrator Jim Free.
