NASA blew the asteroid off course

The experiment was successful. The spacecraft that rammed an asteroid at the end of September managed to make it change orbit, announces the American space agency NASA.

The experiment was the first of its kind and could be decisive for how we act on the day an asteroid ends up on a collision course with Earth.

It was on September 27 that the Dart spacecraft rammed the asteroid Dimorphos one million miles from Earth. NASA has now determined that the asteroid’s orbital period around another asteroid has decreased by 32 minutes to just under 11.5 hours.
