On November 1, during a spacewalk on the International Space Station (ISS), NASA astronauts Jasmine Moghbeli and Loral O’Hara lost their tool bag and it is now floating near the orbital station around the Earth. About this November 6 reported scientific site EarthSky.
The authors of the material note that “somehow” Moghbeli lost her bag and now the bag can sometimes be seen through binoculars from Earth.
A recording of the moment when the bag floated away from the astronauts appeared on social networks.
At NASA too wrote about the loss of a bag during a nearly seven-hour spacewalk by two astronauts.
“The instruments were not needed until the end of the spacewalk. Mission Control analyzed the bag’s trajectory and determined that the risk of re-contact with the station was low and that the onboard crew and space station were safe,” the American agency noted.
Space.com writes that the bag is “sinking quickly” and it will disappear, descending to an altitude of about 113 km.
Context:
The International Space Station is a manned orbital station that is used as a multi-purpose space research facility. Five space agencies are participating in the project: NASA, Roscosmos, European Space Agency, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency and Canadian Space Agency. The ISS was assembled in Earth orbit in 1998–2000. On November 2, 2000, the first expedition set off for the station.
In 2014, the countries participating in the program agreed to operate the station until 2024.
