NASA astronaut Marke Vande Hei, whose mandate was extended in September, will soon break the space agency’s record for uninterrupted days in space. Vande Hei will return home after 355 days.
Scientists and astronauts have been conducting various experiments and researches in space for years thanks to the International Space Station.
NASA astronaut Marke Vande Hei said the American space program will set a record number of uninterrupted days spent in space. By the time the astronaut returns home in March, he will have spent almost a year off-planet.
Mark Vande Hei has been aboard the International Space Station since April 9, 2021.
LONGEST CONTINUOUS TIME IN SPACE
If the astronaut, whose mission was extended in September, returns to Earth on March 30 as planned, he will have spent 355 uninterrupted days in space, breaking the record for the number of uninterrupted days in space.
Current NASA record, until March 1, 2016 on the International Space Station It belongs to astronaut Scott Kelly, who spent 340 days.
The world record is held by Valeri Polyakov, who spent 437 days aboard the Russian Mir space station in 1994 and 1995.
Vande Hei, a former US Army officer and NASA astronaut since 2009, was originally scheduled to return to Earth in October.
However, the astronaut’s return was delayed for a Russian filmmaker and actress to shoot parts of a movie on the station.
Because two filmmakers launched from Russia to the station, Vande Hei and Russian cosmonaut Pyotr Dubrov had occupied seats in the Soyuz spacecraft set up for them.
