NASA astronaut says what tourists will do in outer space | Science | Society

Former NASA astronaut Jeffrey Hoffman told RIA Novostiwhat tourists will do when going into outer space. According to him, this procedure does not require special preparation, as opposed to carrying out work on the outside of the ISS, so tourists will simply be let out and allowed to “hang out”.

This week RSC Energia reported on the conclusion of a contract for the flight, which envisages the launch of a space tourist into outer space, with Space Adventures. The flight of two tourists on the Soyuz to the ISS is scheduled for 2023.

He noted that they will not pose any tasks for space tourists. They will be dressed in spacesuits, released outside, “they will be given the opportunity to hang out there for a while, after which they will be returned to the station.”

Preparation for the flight itself will also be reduced, since space tourism does not involve participation in work on board. The main emphasis will be placed on studying the work of the spacesuit and its life support systems.

We add that the head of the Space Policy Institute, Ivan Moiseev, previously suggested that a weekly flight into space could cost a tourist $ 50 million, and going out into outer space would increase its cost four times.
