NASA astronaut Frank Rubio broke the record as the longest-serving astronaut in space. It is recorded that he has been in space for more than a year.
NASA administrator and former US senator, Bill Nelson, appreciated Frank Rubio for breaking this record via a tweet on his X page @SenBillNelson.
“Frank Rubio’s journey in space represents true exploration. When he broke the record for longest US Astronaut in space, he also paved the way for future generations of astronauts. Your dedication is truly extraordinary, Frank!,” wrote Nelson .
Previously, NASA also shared a proud tweet saying that their astronaut, Frank Rubio, had just broken a record that surpassed the previous record. According to NASA, Frank Rubio will spend exactly 371 days in space before his scheduled return to Earth on September 27.
“Astronaut Frank Rubio just set a new US space record, surpassing his previous record of 355 consecutive days on the ISS, the longest mission for NASA.
He is scheduled to return to Earth on September 27, so he will have spent exactly 371 days in space,” NASA wrote in a tweet on the official X account @NASA.
Who is Frank Rubio?
Frank Rubio is an astronaut who started his career in the world of space in 2017. He carried out his space journey in September 2022 using Russia’s Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft.
Apart from that, Frank Rubio has a strong military background. He is a graduate of the US Military Academy who graduated in 1998. He performed his military service as a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter pilot with more than 1,100 flying hours, of which 600 hours were combat flights.
He was involved in US Army military operations in Bosnia, Afghanistan and Iraq. In addition, he also has a health education certification, he completed a doctoral program in medicine in 2010.
