NASA Appoints Jim Free as New Associate Administrator to Lead Teams and Leaders

JAKARTA – The United States Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has appointed a replacement for Bob Cabana to fill the position of association administrator. This position will be filled by Jim Free.

Free was an associate administrator at NASA, but specialized in exploration systems development. This position is lower than the Cabana position. After Cabana officially retires, Free will lead many teams and leaders at NASA.

The position of associate administrator was entrusted to Free after NASA leadership saw his track record during his work. According to Administrator Bill Nelson, Free’s capabilities could help NASA achieve the interests of humanity.

“Pam, Bob and I are confident that his wealth of experience and expertise will provide exceptional guidance and perspective to our leadership team in its new role as association administrator,” Nelson said in a statement.

The associate administrator position is the third highest position at NASA. Free would later work behind Administrator Bill Nelson and Deputy Administrator Pam Melroy, two other top positions at NASA.

While serving as associate administrator, Free will advise Nelson and Pam on NASA decision-making and supervise directorate leaders across NASA missions and field centers.

For information, NASA has announced that Cabana will retire on December 31. Looking at this date, it is certain that Free will begin serving as association administrator next year.

After Free replaces Cabana, the position of associate administrator for exploration system development will be replaced by someone who serves under him, namely Catherine Koerner.
