NASA Appoints Falcon Heavy SpaceX, Launches GOES-U Weather Satellite

Suara.com – NASA already chosen Falcon Heavy to launch the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite-U (GOES-U).

The plan, this rocket will lift off in April 2024 from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

As reported by Space, Sunday (12/9/2021), the total cost of NASA’s launch will cost about 152.5 million US dollars.

“GOES-U will provide advanced imagery and atmospheric measurements of Earth’s weather, oceans and environment, as well as real-time mapping of total lightning activity and enhanced monitoring of solar activity and space weather,” NASA officials said.

GOES-U will be the fourth and final spacecraft in the GOES-R series, a collaboration between NASA and the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Falcon Heavy has only had three takeoffs to date, but is poised to do quite a bit of practice in the near future.

For example, launch rockets on two secret missions for the US Space Force over the next few months.

It will also upgrade, among other payloads, NASA’s Psyche asteroid probe in August 2022, the agency’s Europa Clipper mission in October 2024, and the first major portion of the space station orbiting NASA’s Gateway moon in November 2024.
