NASA Announces Crew for Artemis 2 Moon Mission

Tuesday, April 4 2023 – 10:04 WIB

LIVE Techno – The Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has just announced four astronauts who will go to the Moon on the Artemis 2 mission. The crew is expected to be the first Moon explorers since the Apollo program.

The positions of the Artemis 2 crew will be filled by commander Reid Wiseman, pilot Victor Glover and mission specialists Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen. Hansen is a Canadian Space Agency (CSA) astronaut who flies under an agreement between the US and Canada. He will be the first non-American to leave Earth orbit and fly to the Moon.

The Artemis 2 crew was announced Monday during an event held at Ellington Field, home to NASA’s aircraft operations located near the Johnson Space Center in Houston, according to Space’s website, Tuesday, April 4, 2023.

NASA administrator Bill Nelson and other agency leaders joined the event, as did most of the active members of the astronaut corps. The other three were absent because they were on the International Space Station (ISS).

“Reid, Victor, Christina and Jeremy, each of these adventurers has a story to tell. But together, we will usher in a new era of exploration for a new generation of star sailors and dreamers, the Artemis generation,” said Nelson.

Targeted for launch in late 2024, they will lift off with NASA’s Orion spacecraft aboard a Space Launch System (SLS) rocket from Pad 39B at Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
