Narendra Modi: Prime Minister of India to visit Ukraine – 2024-08-20 16:41:02

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will soon visit Ukraine, the Ministry of External Affairs announced today. It will be his first trip to the war-torn country since the conflict with Russia broke out. While at the same time, it will take place about a month after his meeting with the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, in Moscow.

The Foreign Ministry did not specify the date of the visit. The Indian Prime Minister will visit Ukraine, as well as Poland, as announced.

However, more details about Narendra Modi’s visit will be known later today, Monday, August 19. Indian media reports that the Indian leader’s trip will last a week and will take place within the month.

The relations between the two countries

Western capitals imposed sanctions on Moscow after it invaded Ukraine in 2022. But friendly countries such as India and China continue to trade with it.

India has refrained from directly blaming Russia for its special military operation in Ukraine. While the Indian government urged the two neighboring countries to achieve an end to the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy.

The US has raised concerns about India’s relations with Russia. As it is a particularly timely one, as Washington seeks to strengthen its ties with New Delhi as a possible counterweight to a rise in Chinese influence.

New Delhi seeks to deepen its relations with the West while keeping its ties with Russia intact. The relations between the two countries are traditionally characterized by friendly ties.
