Narbonne: the hospital will create an intergenerational health complex at the Cup

The project for the Nursing Training Institute (IFSI) which was to be built at the bedside of Saint-Paul, near the hospital had to be completely redesigned. It is now at the Cup that an intergenerational health complex will be built at a cost of € 18 million.

The old mansion, quai Dillon, which for years housed the Institute for Nursing Training (IFSI) was no longer suitable for accommodating 250 students (195 nursing students of 1st, 2nd and 3rd year) and students (50 nursing assistant students) in the training institute for nursing assistants (IFAS).
The project of the hospital center was to create a new building behind the hospital at the bedside of the Saint-Paul Serge basilica. Significant work was then carried out through the demolition of eight houses, (properties of the hospital and the town hall) to make way for a surface of 1000 m2.
But in Narbonne, as soon as you dig, you find… remains.

Also, the DRAC (Regional Directorate of Religious Affairs) imposed, in October 2020, the realization of deep excavations, at the expense of the hospital, without setting a precise date.
An intervention which led the management of the hospital to revise its plans.

Intergenerational and eco-sustainable

Far from giving up, the management of the hospital has rebounded. With the acquisition of 12,500 m2 of land in the La Coupe area, near Pech D’Alcy, the project to build an IFSIS and an IFAS was then enhanced.

“The site will take place in two phases”, indicate the financial director, Michel Jeanney and Christophe Motos, the technical manager of the hospital.
“A first phase which will see the construction of the IFSI and the IFAS, of a self open to neighboring companies then, in a second phase, will consist in setting up a child psychiatry center, with in addition the transfer of Auxilia, (Alzheimer’s) to create a “Aging well” platform with an outpatient geriatrics center “, specify the two managers of the hospital.

End of work at the start of the 2023 school year

The start of work is scheduled for July 2022 with six months for the shell. “We hope for the delivery of all the equipment for the start of the school year in 2023”, advance Michel Jeanney.

In total, no less than 450 students from the two institutes will be welcomed during this 2023 academic year, students who will also be able to attend lectures in an amphitheater (also open to the public) with a capacity of 250 places.

The key word in the design of this set is intergenerational. Students, the elderly, children… will indeed cohabit in an open space.

To intergenerationality, we must add eco-construction. “It is an eco-sustainable project which aims to be exemplary from the point of view of wood constructions and landscaped and pedestrian environments. But also in the constitution of a collective to be created in the heart of a health district”, affirm Michel Jeanney and Christophe Motos.
The building permit filing will be filed in a fortnight then will be launched on the 1stis call for tenders.
