The hospital is entering the second phase of its expansion on the Saint-Paul plan. The new wooden buildings will host consultations in a few months, with the exception of those related to the mother-child center.
The Saint-Paul plan saw the construction of wooden structures two years ago, allowing the hospital center to continue its activity. Visitors to the famous Plan Saint-Paul market had to adopt new habits and hospital users were asked to use the Maraussan car park, served by a free shuttle. What was initially called a temporary hospital quickly turned into an essential structure, first hosting a vaccination center to combat the spread of Covid, then medical visits. If this move was driven by the need to be reactive in times of epidemic, the continuation of this development follows the same strategy: two thirds of the consultations have been installed there, allowing the hospital to install on the square thus freed, a PUMA unit: a post-emergency acute medicine service that allows for optimal post-emergency patient management and improves the fluidity of the patient’s journey.
“Today we transfer the rest of the visits, i.e. the remaining third, in particular those of orthopedic surgery and anesthesia”, says Richard Barthès, the director. This extension mobilizes 2 million euros. The PUMA unit is also called to stay inside the hospital “If we didn’t have this 12-bed unit, we wouldn’t make it, explains Alain Péret, head of emergencies. We are in a period of epidemic, flu, respiratory virus and Covid, the hospital is full. In the hospital, the new space freed up by the transfer of visits to the other side of the avenue will benefit the outpatient clinic with an area of 600 m22considered indispensable today by a flourishing surgical activity.
