Napoli are closing in on an agreement with Portuguese side Benfica for the transfer of former Ajax winger David Neres, following a meeting between the player’s agent and Partenopei sporting director Giovanni Manna on Wednesday evening.
Neres’ agent was in Rome on Wednesday night to hold talks with Napoli representatives. According to reports from Corriere dello Sport, Napoli have budgeted an investment in the region of €25 million for a new striker this summer. Benfica are pushing for an initial fee of €25 million for Neres this summer, plus an additional €5 million in bonuses. Napoli, meanwhile, are trying to see if they can get last-minute reductions on the deal. Thursday’s report suggests that there is already an agreement in principle between the player and the club. Napoli are reportedly willing to offer the Brazilian a five-year contract, until 2029, with an annual salary of around €3 million per season.
