Naoya Inoue: Japanese Boxer Wins Four-Division Title

Naoya Inoue is a 30-year-old from Kanagawa Prefecture. He started boxing at the age of 6 under the influence of his father, Shingo. He attracted attention when he was a high school student by winning seven amateur titles, including the All Japan Championship, and made his professional debut at the age of 19 in 2012 after graduating from high school.

He won many victories with his destructive punches, and in 2014 he became the light flyweight world champion in his sixth professional fight, and later became the super flyweight and bantamweight world champions.

In 2019, he won a decision over Nonito Donaire of the Philippines, who has won five weight classes, in the bantamweight final of the World Boxing Super Series, a competition that transcends the boundaries of groups to determine the strongest fighter in that weight class. I got it and won.

He also became the first Japanese athlete to take first place in the pound-for-pound ranking of the strongest fighters in all weight classes, selected by The Ring, an authoritative boxing magazine in the United States, and in December of last year. He became the first Japanese athlete to hold four championships in the bantamweight division.

In order to unify the four groups in two weight classes, I gave up all my belts in January this year and moved up one weight class to super bantamweight.

As his first match, this July, he faced WBC and WBO unified champion Stephen Fulton of the United States in a title match, winning by technical knockout and becoming the second Japanese male fighter to win a four-division title. I accomplished it.

As a professional, he had won all 25 matches up until the match on the night of the 26th, with 22 of those matches coming by knockout.
