Melbourne: Naomi Osaka defeats 23-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams in the women’s singles final of the Australian Open. The Japanese seed, who is also the third seed, won the semifinals 6-3, 6-4 in an hour and 15 minutes.

Osaka were able to capture the competition strongly from Serena, who got off to a great start. Serena’s longed to match Margaret Court’s record of 24th Grand Slam title.

Serena has won the Australian Open seven times and Osaka in 2019. In the second semi, Carolina Muchova will face Jennifer Brady. If they win the final, it will be Osaka’s fourth Grand Slam title.
