Naomi Campbell is thrilled that African designers are finally getting the “notoriety” they deserve.

The 50-year-old flew to Lagos, Nigeria last week to support aspiring designers from Africa at Arise Fashion Week.

Fashion week took place online last week and Naomi wants to help young people get their fashion “globally recognized”. About her involvement, the supermodel says: “I was going to do it virtual and then I thought you know what? I want to go and raise awareness of their great work. It’s important in many ways because Arise gives these young designers a platform to be recognized globally, to be celebrated by fashion weeks around the world, and to be truly involved. ” In an interview with Observer, she enthusiastically adds: “I am very impressed. Covid has brought a lot of creativity to a lot of people.”
Now the model is happy that the world is also looking at Africa. “In the past there was a misperception of the continent and the creativity that emanates from it. Now everyone has finally got it – for example, that Nigeria is one of the biggest emerging markets for the under-30s, so everyone looks into this Direction. But we don’t want Africa to be seen as a trend. These designers are finally getting the fame they deserve – and they will keep their fame, “said Campbell.
