Naoki Prize Shigeaki Kato Candidate | au Web Portal Domestic News

-On the 18th, the Society for the Promotion of Japanese Literature announced 11 candidates for the 164th “Akutagawa Prize / Naoki Prize”. For the Akutagawa Prize, rock band Creap Hype’s Sekaikan Ozaki (36) was the first candidate for “Mother Shadow”. At the Naoki Prize, popular group NEWS Shigeaki Kato (33) was also nominated for the first time in “Alternate”. The selection will be held at “Shin Kiraku” in Tsukiji, Tokyo from 3:00 pm on January 20, next year.

In addition to Ozaki, the Akutagawa Prize includes Rin Usami (21) “Push, Burn”, Mitsuko Kizaki (29) “Konjuji”, Bunji Sunakawa (30) “Platoon”, Yusuke Noriyo (34) “Travel” 5 works of “Practice”. Mr. Sunagawa and Mr. Noriyo are candidates for the second time, and the other three are the first nominees.

In addition to Kato, the Naoki Prize includes Mr. Yo Ashizawa (36) “Do not wipe dirty hands there”, Mr. Shin Iyohara (48) “Silver Snow in August”, Naka Saijo (56) “Shinjitsugawa”, Six works, Izumi Sakagami (30) “Invisible” and Kyo Nagaura (53) “Underdogs”, are all the first candidates.

Both awards were established in 1935 (Showa 10). The Akutagawa Prize is given to pure literary short stories published in newspapers and magazines (including douujinshi), and the Naoki Prize is given to outstanding works from short and long popular literary works published as newspapers, magazines (same) and books. The former is mainly for unknown / emerging writers, and the latter is for unknown / up-and-coming / mid-career writers.

If the winners live in Tokyo or the suburbs, a joint press conference will be held on the day of the announcement. Even if you live in a rural area, you will participate in Zoom. The presentation ceremony will be held in Tokyo in mid-February, and the winners will be given a watch as a positive prize and a prize of 1 million yen as a supplementary prize.

In the previous term, the 163rd Akutagawa Prize was awarded to Haneko Takayama’s “Shuri no Ma” and Haruka Tono’s “Catastrophe”, and the Naoki Prize was awarded to Hase Seishū’s “Boys and Dogs”.
