After twenty years, Olga Lucovnicova returns to her great-grandparents’ village in Moldova. She suffered a trauma there as a child; she has been abused by her uncle. The documentary she made about that fraught journey is called “Nanu Tudor” or “My uncle Tudor”.
“Making this film was one of the hardest things in my life,” Lucovnicova said in response to her Europea Film Award. “I took the camera because I couldn’t find the words. Because silence amplifies evil.”
